Review: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

SYNOPSIS:

Nalini Singh dives into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind-and none of the heart.

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation” – the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion – and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities – or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

REVIEW:

I don’t even know who I am anymore. As I continue my shifter binge, I stumbled across this book and I have met the author before but I never thought her work would be something I enjoyed. Well, please allow me to acknowledge the error in my way because this book was pure fire. It was a scorching hot inferno that was simmering until I was consumed. I cannot even describe how flawless this book was. From a plot line that had me hypnotized to a forbidden romance that was the definition of “slow-burn” there wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

Most shifter books are plagued by insta-love or simply not enough character development. Nalini Singh excelled at creating multi-dimensional, complex characters whose emotions were so tantalizing I felt there pain, hardships, and passions. By the end of the story I felt as if I was transported into the pack safe-house and sitting among friends rather than fictional characters.

Lucas and Sascha’s chemistry was off the charts and they compliment each other nicely. I adored the innocence and naive personality of Sascha while I was melting into the dominance of Lucas. The secondary characters are equally as wonderful and I already got the second book because I am captivated and need more. The story line had enough action and twists to keep me interested while not overshadowing the blossoming romance. It was a masterful balance of giggles, tension, and steam…and I am ready for more!
