Review: Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh

SYNOPSIS:

Hailed as a major new talent in paranormal romance, Nalini Singh takes us deeper into the world of the Psy and the changelings in her latest extraordinary novel, where a gifted woman sees passion in her future – a passion that is absolutely forbidden by her kind…

Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous – aching need…exquisite pleasure. But so powerful is her sight, so fragile the state of her mind, that the very emotions she yearns to embrace could be the end of her.

Changeling Vaughn D’Angelo can take the form of either man or jaguar, but it is his animal side that is overwhelmingly drawn to Faith. The jaguar’s instinct is to claim this woman it finds so utterly fascinating and the man has no argument. But while Vaughn craves sensation and hungers to pleasure Faith in every way, desire is a danger that could snap the last threads of her sanity. And there are Psy who need Faith’s sight for their own purposes. They must keep her silenced – and keep her from Vaughn.

REVIEW:

I enjoyed the continuation of this story but I thought Vaughn and Faith’s story was just a little too similar to Lucas and Sascha’s story. So while I loved learning more about the Council, various loop-holes, and new potential plot twists, the couple lacked originality in comparison. While I was intrigued by Vaughn and wanted to know more about him, Faith was more of a one-dimensional character. I didn’t see the fluidity in her development and her emotions seem to come purely from lust or thin air. While I didn’t hate it, it kinda put me off from Faith. She was overly sensitive and weak…I think Vaughn could have done better. Towards the end she has a few minor moments of redemption, but mostly she felt like a wet blanket on the story.

I loved the twists and changes that are coming up and all the speculation surrounding the Silence. I am really looking forward to seeing where this development goes. I think the unpredictability is what draws me in because the Psy world is 100% unknown and I have absolutely no idea what they have up their sleeves. This is alluring and terrifying to the story line. Although the next book and couple already have my interest so lets hope for a more unique tale coming up!
