Review: Before Now by Cheryl McIntyre
Park Reed is a bastard in every sense of the word. He hasn’t always been this way. But after his heart was broken by the only girl he ever loved, being heartless gets him through the day and allows him to fill his nights with the nameless girls he has no intentions of seeing again. He now lives his life following the ever-growing list of “life lessons.”
Lucy Braden is everything Park is not. She’s sweet, caring, and an all-around nice person. She tries to follow Lucy’s Rules to Live By every day.
When Park moves in with Jessie, which happens to be the floor below Lucy, Jessie’s one stipulation: Lucy is off limits to Park. The problem with that is Lucy is determined to be a good friend to Park and see past the drinking and random girls to find the man beneath it all. The other problem: Park follows his own rules.
REVIEW:
What can I say except I serious love anything that Cheryl McIntyre writes! First off if you haven’t read Sometimes Never stop right now and go buy that before you even consider reading Before Now. Yes, Before Now can be read as an individual novel but Sometimes Never was just so damn good you should read that too!
Now, where was I, oh yes praising Cheryl McIntyre. I have to confess I was hesitant in buying this book and with a very good reason, I hated Park Reed after reading Sometimes Never. Park was a bastard and he pissed me off, guess what he is still a bastard and pissing me off. Park is a hot mess, and I mean that 100%. He is gorgeous, sexy, he sings in a band, he is rocking all that is a bad boy; however, Park is broken because of Hope. I will leave it at that because I refuse to bad mouth Hope.
Then there is hippie, squirt gun carrying, breakfast making, loving Lucy. Lucy is off limits according to Park’s roommate but we all know Park and he listens to no one. Try as they may they can’t resist each other, except they are like fire and ice, complete opposites.
I don’t want to give away any of the excitement because trust me there was alot of it, along with the need for several cold showers! There are parts I never saw coming and moments when I was yelling at Park through my Kindle…okay there were a lot of these but Cheryl just knows how to write characters that get under my skin!
I absolutely adore all of Cheryl’s works and I suggest you start reading them because she is one of my favorite authors ever! I am hoping/wishfully thinking that this is not the last book in the Sometimes Never collection, please, please, please let Chase get a book?!
FAVORITE QUOTES:
I’ve lost myself somewhere along the way, little pieces of who I used to be are spread like breadcrumbs, but I don’t think I’ll ever find my way back.
Fool me once- fuck you. Fool me twice- I’m a fucking idiot who deserves what I get.
Isn’t it weird how what works for one person doesn’t work for another? We’re all so different. Looking for different things.
Just…don’t trip, fall, and land dick first inside some random girl on the way over there.
We merge like two flames, fast and out of control. Because sometimes that’s just how love works. We may smolder, we may blaze, we may rage without reason. But it’s always beautiful.
How do you love someone and still protect yourself? How can you give your heart away and trust it will be safe in another’s hand?
