Review: Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn
Let You Leave (novella included in this special edition of Keep Me Still) Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bind them together or tear them apart. Keep Me Still Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she’s built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance. Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls, but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.
REVIEW:
Two words for this book: THE FEELS! I don’t even know where to start because I am still coming down from the emotional rollercoaster that Caisey Quinn just took me! My jaw was laying on the ground and there were so many twists that I didn’t see coming! Usually, I am able to predict the story line but the twists in Keep Me Still left me in complete shock and I am still feeling the after-effects.
Lets start with Layla, sweet, damaged, broken, self-destructive Layla. Really, I mean this girl has been through the ringer and if I could, I would go to her high school and kick everyones’ *ss for how they treated her. I have to say, Layla is one of the most developed characters I have ever read about. The girl you meet at the beginning of the novel and the girl you see at the end are two completely different people. She grows and she will grow into your heart and you will find yourself cheering her on or yelling at her to stop being stupid (I did both of these things).
Then there is Landen, speaking of which I love this name! He is your sexy soccer play with a bad attitude and for a good reason. I can’t tell you what but lets just say Landen has his own baggage and sh*t to deal with. He is strong and determined as hell, and who doesn’t like that about a man? Exactly, I rest my case!
This book is a journey and one that everyone should take because it blew me away! I am still in shock over the twists and turns and the journey this book has taken me on. It covered everything for me: emotional trauma, family troubles, coping, falling in love, feeling broken, and rebuilding yourself with hot, steamy sex scenes. So one thing you need to do is buy this book and if you are like me, patiently wait till November when the sequel novella, Hold Us Close, comes out!
FAVORITE QUOTES:
We both have secrets, I think to myself. Wonder if they’ll bind us together or tear us apart?
Things have to happen, you have to go on scary adventures, follow your heart, and let it lead you down dark alleys that may dead end in a pit of despair. Otherwise you’re just existing, and who the hell wants to settle for that?
This is going to kill me, rip me apart, and send the pieces of me flying around the room. Or burn me alive and send my ashy remains scattering in the wind.
