Review: Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone
If you could read my mind, you wouldn’t be smiling.
Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can’t turn off.
Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn’t help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. Yet Sam knows she’d be truly crazy to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when Sam meets Caroline, she has to keep her new friend with a refreshing sense of humor and no style a secret, right up there with Sam’s weekly visits to her psychiatrist.
Caroline introduces Sam to Poet’s Corner, a hidden room and a tight-knit group of misfits who have been ignored by the school at large. Sam is drawn to them immediately, especially a guitar-playing guy with a talent for verse, and starts to discover a whole new side of herself. Slowly, she begins to feel more “normal” than she ever has as part of the popular crowd . . . until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear.

Okay, I read the synopsis for this book and decided I needed it immediately and thankfully the NetGalley gods were on my side and it was relinquished into my Kindle possession. This book was 5 enchanting, captivating stars! Seriously it was amazing, just 10% into the story I knew this was something special, it was something that was gonna change lives. At 80% everything I knew to be true was a lie and I was sobbing and confused and questioning why Tamara is making me a crazy, irrational person. Then the ending was a sweet, sweet, bliss that left a smile on my face and touched my heart.
The story is about Sam, she has OCD and anxiety…I can relate to her completely. She hides this from her friends but really they aren’t true friends. Then she meets Caroline and is introduced to an entirely different world of poetry and friendship and it changes her life. Only to realize that on of the things she treasures most isn’t real. Its all a lie. Oh my goodness, I couldn’t get enough of this plot twist. Seriously Tamara is a genius, a wicked tear my heart of and then patch it up before returning it genius. This book was everything I wanted and hoped for, my only fault is that it ended. It was enchanting to watch Sam grow as a character and I fell in love with Caroline and all the misfits of the Poet’s Corner, because isn’t that what we all were in high school, just a bunch of misfits trying to survive together…
