Review: Charlie, Presumed Dead by Anne Heltzel

SYNOPSIS:Charlie, Presumed Dead

In Paris, family and friends gather to mourn the tragic passing of Charlie Price—young, handsome, charming, a world-traveler—who is presumed dead after an explosion. Authorities find only a bloodied jacket, ID’d as Charlie’s. At the funeral, two teens who are perfect strangers, Lena Whitney and Aubrey Boroughs, make another shocking discovery: they have both been dating Charlie, both think Charlie loved them and them alone, and there is a lot they didn’t know about their boyfriend. Over the next week, a mind-bending trip unfolds: first in London—then in Mumbai, Kerala, and Bangkok, the girls go in search of Charlie. Is he still alive? What did their love for him even mean? The truth is out there, but soon it becomes clear that the girls are harboring secrets of their own.

No one knows whom to trust in this thrilling tale of suspense and deception.

REVIEW:

This book was crazy, with a capital C. I honestly don’t even know how to start the review for this book and I don’t mean that in a good way. This book had so much potential but there were way, way, way too many plot twists. Like I am talking about a plot twists in every d*mn chapter! There is no time for you to watch the characters grow and develop because they are all harvesting so many secrets and it feels like you almost need to have a notepad next to you while reading so you can keep track of whose deceiving who, who has an alternative agenda, who is backstabbing who, and what secrets belong to what character. I don’t want to have to take notes while reading to keep track of the constant changes…no one wants to do that while reading!

The characters have a lot of untapped potential, this whole story is building up to an epic cliffhanger ending, hooray, because there wasn’t enough drama and confusing…lets drop a cliffhanger in here too. Seriously, I could not get over how deeply weaved this book is and then leave me hanging. No, just no, this book was overly complicated, over done, and I for one am over it. There was plenty of mystery…but it wasn’t thrilling.
