Review: Bound by Kira Saito
SYNOPSIS:
Sixteen year old Arelia LaRue lives in New Orleans where the music is loud, voodoo queens inhabit every street corner, and the ghosts are alive and well. Despite her surroundings, all she wants is to help her Grand-mere Bea pay the rent and save up for college.
When her best friend Sabrina convinces her to take a well-paying summer job at the infamous Darkwood plantation, owned by the wealthy LaPlante family, Arelia agrees.

REVIEW:
So I have a love, hate relationship with this book. There were things about this book that I loved, starting with the fact that it was a unique story! The concept of a paranormal romance being centered around voodoo is amazing and unique, I have yet to come across anything like it in the genre. There are (from what I hear) seven books planned for this series, and this is your foundation book. It definitely comes across like that, you learn about all the characters, their background stories, and the main plot line.
With that being said I wanted more, this is a paranormal romance, but I didn’t get any romance! There wasn’t even a kiss…just some lusting after a shirtless male. The story dramatically lacked in the romance department and to say I was disappoint was an understatement. I also need to mention Sabrina who I hated, she was quiet possibly the worst best friend ever. Thoughts on Sabrina, slutty, user, rude, self-centered…she is truly a character I cannot stand. Arelia is interesting, unique, and a puzzle I would like to learn more about and see who she develops a potential relationship with.
With these things being said I would love and hope that something blossoms between Lucus and Arelia…and Sabrina maybe gets hit by a bus or eaten by an alligator. However, if book 2 completely lacks in the romance part, I will have to bid adieu. After all, the book is classified as a YA Paranormal Romance, we need more than some shirtless Lucus showing off his abs and broad shoulders. So this one is to be determined…
