Review: The Heartbreakers by Ali Novak
“When I met Oliver Perry, I had no clue he was the lead singer for The Heartbreakers. And he had no idea that I was the only girl in the world who hated his music.”
Stella will do anything for her sick sister, Cara—even stand in line for an autographed Heartbreakers CD…for four hours. She’s totally winning best birthday gift this year. At least she met a cute boy with soft brown hair and gorgeous blue eyes while getting her caffeine fix. Too bad she’ll never see him again.
Except, Stella’s life has suddenly turned into a cheesy love song. Because Starbucks Boy is Oliver Perry – lead singer for the Heartbreakers. And even after she calls his music crap, Oliver still gives Stella his phone number. And whispers quotes from her favorite Disney movie in her ear. OMG, what is her life?
But how can Stella even think about being with Oliver — dating and laughing and pulling pranks with the band — when her sister could be dying of cancer?
REVIEW:
*Book Received in Exchange for Honest Opinion/Review*
This book was sticky sweet and utterly adorable. I really enjoyed it minus one glaring issue…typos. As in the very first page of the book had a typo, so I really hope these type of mistakes were caught before the book went off to final print. Otherwise, this was a sweet, light young adult romance. Oliver is sweet, witty, charming, exactly what I would expect for a cocky, rock-star-teenager. Stella, well she has yet to truly come into her own, and I guess this book is as much a romance as well as Stella figuring out who she is as a person.
The boys of the band are to die for; Alec, JJ, and Xander make this story. From the constant pranks, joking, and fun you can really see the brotherhood and bond among these boys and it was so playful and fun. They are like a breath of fresh air, especially JJ…too cute and slightly pervy. It’s not a heavy or overly emotional read but something that had me smiling and giggling. It also had me questioning Oliver’s choices several times…damn this boy. The ending left me with a smile, and wanting more. I would love to see the story continue and have all members of the band find happily ever afters. So if you are looking for a light, quick YA romance, stop the search…this is your book.
