Audio Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
SYNOPSIS:
Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy. He lives with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and cousin Dudley, who are mean to him and make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs. (Dudley, however, has two bedrooms, one to sleep in and one for all his toys and games.) Then Harry starts receiving mysterious letters and his life is changed forever. He is whisked away by a beetle-eyed giant of a man and enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The reason: Harry Potter is a wizard! The first book in the “Harry Potter” series makes the perfect introduction to the world of Hogwarts.
REVIEW:
A classic that I have never officially finished. I tried to read Harry Potter when I was a child and it first came out; however, I fell asleep while reading it and struggled to get into the story. Eventually, I gave up on reading it and never finished it. Flash forward to my tangible love of the movies, I thought I would give the audio book a try. The audio book is phenomenal! It is an amplified and more detailed version of the movie…with bonus and deleted scenes!
I really enjoyed the adventure and whimsical awe that Harry spends the book in. It also portrays Snape in a different light, I had no idea that James saved Snape’s life! So there are many juicy little tid-bits that the movie is lacking. There are just so many details that I was missing out on because my youthful mind couldn’t truly appreciate the masterpiece I was reading. I am so glad I borrowed the audio book from the library because I have a brand new appreciation for the story.
Jim Dale did an amazing job narrating the story and J.K. Rowling has a truly exception talent at building a world of wonder. From the ghosts to the paintings I want to wander around Hogwarts and get lost in it, which she allows me to do. She shows me endless corridors and passageways and leaves me wanting more. This story isn’t my acceptance letter to Hogwarts, but it is still magical!
