Review: Cheater by Rachel Van Dyken
SYNOPSIS:

This book took a little bit of time for me to warm up to, but in typical Rachel Van Dyken fashion, she eventually hooks me in and I can’t put it down. I can’t explain my attraction to this book, while I didn’t experience many laugh out loud moments, I didn’t want to put it down. I think I was fascinated with this taboo story line. I mean it takes a special author with some balls to write an entire story centered around a cheater, and Rachel does it with easy and a well practiced mastery.
I was captivated by Lucas, I wanted to be in his head, and know what made him tick. Avery was a spit fire and I loved the absolute chaos that ensued when they are reunited. The secondary characters are absolutely, over-the-top ridiculous, and made the story so much better. I really like how unique and different the story was, it was a refreshing POV, regardless of the story line. Lucas really grew over the course of the story and while I am not sure he is a changed man, I have high hopes. I was also cheering when a certain character got punched in the face. Some characters are so awful you can’t help but be satisfied when karma rolls around.
Overall, this book has me very hopeful for the second one. While it wasn’t the insta-love I usually experience when reading a Rachel Van Dyken novel, I did enjoy the interesting story line and the different POVs. I am feeling confident that the next book will far exceed this one.
