REVIEW:
This book was painful for me but also my favorite so far in the series. It took me a long time to finish this audiobook and I blame Umbridge because my scathing hatred of her can only tolerate her in small doses. Seriously, the narrator captures Umbridge’s awful-ness perfectly and really made me fall that much more into the story. In addition, the narrator blew me away with Bellatrix, I sat dazed listening and I could I think is I don’t know who is more horrid, Bellatrix or Umbridge, needless to say it was a draw for me.
This book sets a far darker tone then its predecessors and I really loved the evolution of Harry in this book. He is growing up, coming into his own, brazen, determined, and seamlessly fearless and fearful. As I always do with these books, in the comparison to the movie, they are two different worlds. So much more happens in the book! I was in awe of Fred and George, brave and courageous. Hermione and Ron sorta dance around each other more in the book as well and I absolutely love Ron’s sudden brotherly interest in Ginny’s love life.
The ending had me near tears but I just kept chanting in my head, I will not cry, I will not cry, I will not cry. Seriously though, Harry’s grief and anguish gutted me, and Dumbledore is the freakin’ keeper of the secrets and suddenly spills all the beans. I just was captivated by it, the pain, the trauma, the hatred for Umbridge, I wanted to stop but couldn’t. This world is an addiction, sign me up.
