This is going to be an extremely difficult review to write but just know this, I AM NOT OKAY! I am not okay with any of the events in this book after 85% and I will not be okay until February when the next damn book comes out and I get some answers. So don’t mind me, I will just be over here with my anger, angst, and broken heart…
Alright now that I got that off my chest, Dante and El were a slow burn, tension, angst, a build-up until the fire consumed them. Until everything was engulfed and they only saw each other. It was intoxicating, I was captivated by their draw to each other and was cheering Dante on the entire time. I don’t know why, but Dante has a soft spot in my heart, I think I felt for him in the last book and just wanted to see him get his slice of happiness. I also love the bro-mance that is forming between Dante and Chase, um because who doesn’t love Chase?! I found El to be a truly broken character, and while she really started to come into her own, I would have loved to see more of an emotional journey and development for her.
Unfortunately, I also hated one aspect of the book and because I promised Rachel a spoiler free review…I can’t talk about it. Reading about the mafia is sorta like being in fight club where the first rule is don’t talk about it. Let me just say, holy f*ckin epic plot twist that I didn’t see coming. I think I have whiplash from shaking my head and chanting “no, no, no”. The saying is true, blood in, no out…so very true and it is completely shocking what happens. Betrayal, backstabbing, death, destruction and somehow love still finds a way.
