Review: Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
SYNOPSIS:

There was a reason I have been putting this book off and that is because it’s a hot mess, extra emphasis on the mess. Now while I can totally get behind the synopsis, and I find it completely acceptable to write about an anxiety disorder with appropriate humor, this book was way, way, way in outer space. Floating along in its own imaginative world of chaos.
Let me just start with Audrey’s mom who is, quite honestly, bat-sh*t crazy. At first her irrationality and craziness was funny but as the book wore on, by the time I was half-way through I didn’t want to continue reading because the mom was so illogical. She is judgmental, a hypocrite, and only believes in enforcing her crazed dictatorship on her children. Seriously, the mom needs therapy more than Audrey. The dad is as equally disconnected from reality and I truly hope these crass characters weren’t based off of someone the author knows or encountered…if so please call child protective services.
Then there is Audrey, who in typical fashion is magically cured of everything when a boy walks into her life. We all know this troupe and I am over here heavily rolling my eyes at it. Its fine if you are going to write this troupe but for the love of God, please do so with tack and skill. These characters are one dimensional, boring, and its a miracle I finished the book to begin with so do yourself a favor and remove this from your TBR pile.
