Review: Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh

SYNOPSIS:

Separated from her son and forced to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy–cool, calm, emotionless…at least on the surface. Inside, she’s fighting a desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety, but to the lethal danger of a sniper’s embrace.

DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within. And that leopard’s rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian’s agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers that passion has a way of changing the rules…

REVIEW:

Oh the plot twists, this novel was one giant surprise. I wasn’t expecting to love Dorian’s story like I did. For being a rigid character consumed by grief and loss, I found myself cheering for him to find happiness. Ashaya, is a bundle of secrets and she was truly and unpredictable character but the perfect balance for Dorian. Now usually I don’t read books when kids are involved in the story line…but Keenan dug his way into my heart and every scene he was in I was sighing with joy.

Now in terms of the story, because by this point I am living for the chaos of the Psy-Council…it was absolute madness. Threats from all sides, deception and deceit so thick you don’t know who to trust, and lies. The Silence is crumbling and so with it the Psy. New alliance and dangers appear and a few shocking revelations. Its only book 5 and I can’t imagine how the story will unfold over the next 10 books, honestly, I can’t wait!
