Review: Shards of Hope by Nalini Singh
The “smoldering heat, epic romance, and awesome action” of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as two Arrows find themselves caught in a chilling conspiracy that spans all three races…
Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.
And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what.
This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough—because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken…like Zaira.
REVIEW:
So I took a break from the series for a week or two, I needed to cleanse my reading palette because I was getting burned out. So I re-read one of my go to series and then returned to Shards of Hope. I fell in love with the books all over again and was surprised by how captivating Aden was. For someone who has flickered in and out of the numerous previous books, it was nice to finally get a grasp on who Aden is as a character. Zaira came out of no-where, I don’t recall her from the previous books but she was a strong, bad-*ss woman who I couldn’t help but cheer for.
There were plenty of twists in this book, so much danger. I was honestly extremely disappoint that Ming is still alive, he deserves to be brutally murdered for all the horrors he has put people through. I am intrigued by this new group, an evil gathering of sociopaths but at the same time, I feel the series needs to reach an end point. I am ready for the closure and the crescendo, not new additional plot twists.
I really enjoyed all the collaborations in this book. There was plenty of team work, Psy, Changelings, and humans all working seamlessly together for the greater good. At the start of this series that would have never happened. You get glimpses of all your favorite characters and you can’t help but fall in love all over again. Overall, the book left me with a smile on my face and hope in my heart.
