Review: Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

SYNOPSIS:

ONE OF THE BOYS

What girl doesn’t want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn’t just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that’s just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university.

But everything she’s ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he’s also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan’s feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart’s on the line?

REVIEW:

This book was absolutely adorable. It is book 1 in the Hundred Oaks Series and while I have read other books in this series (completely out of order) each book stands alone. What a bold topic for a book, a female quarterback just trying to get some respect and get drafted by a college. Jordan Woods is the definition of an underdog and I think this will resonate with teens of today.

One of the boys is something I was frequently referred to in high school. I found Jordan, for the most part, relate-able, down to Earth, and realistic about her expectations. Ty Green was all the swoon, but a slight control freak. Jordan and Ty had an instant lust connection, which was annoying but typical of fickle high school students. There was a love triangle, which I saw coming a mile away. While I didn’t hate the predictable plot-line, I wish it didn’t wrap up so quickly. I just wanted a couple more chapters at the end, there simply wasn’t enough.

My only complaint about this book was the casual way in which sex is tossed around. Everyone is hooking up non-stop and I wish they would have taken it a bit more seriously. Otherwise the book was delightful, quick read. It’s the type of story that left me with a smile on my face, but I know won’t stay with me, and sometimes…you just need to read these types of books.
