Review: P.S. I Like You by Kasie West

SYNOPSIS:

Signed, sealed, delivered…

While spacing out in chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk and added a message to her. Intrigue!

Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters—sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only, who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…

REVIEW:

I forgot just how much I enjoy reading Kasie West books and P.S. I Like You reminded me all over again why Kasie is one of my go to authors. After reading a really heavy book, usually mystery or suspense, I will either follow it up with more mystery and suspense or I immediately start scrounging my bookshelf for a light, sweet read. Cue me stumbling upon this book and I knew it would be the perfect cure for the heavy residual emotions I had floating around in my mind.

Kasie West excels at light-hearted romance! Not only are her books captivating but they are so dang catchy, you can’t help but be sucked in. I knew how the book was going to play out from pretty early on but that took absolutely nothing away from the story. Lily is sweet, complex, and drowning in too much family time. With a quirky personality and a sassy sense of humor, you can’t help but cheer Lily on in all her awkward glory on. My only grievance is  the girl on the cover does not match up with how she is portrayed in the book. Kasie West flawlessly capture the difficult dynamic of high school, from misunderstood teens, damaged friendships, and fickle emotions to mean girls and complicated parental relationships, Kasie nails the hardships of high school.

The mystery man had me swooning all the swoons. And when he was finally revealed, I still couldn’t keep the grin off my face. I adored the banter between the mystery pen-pal and Lily. The characters’ backgrounds and story lines are rich and this expands well into secondary characters. I laughed out loud, I giggled and blushed like Lily but most of all I smiled. I was smiling throughout the whole d*mn book and at the end of the day that was really what I wanted. I read an excellent feel good book that did exactly that, I am still smiling as I write this review.
