Review: Renaissance Man by Tessa Bailey

SYNOPSIS:

The last place ex-Special forces soldier, Kyle Musgrave, expected to find himself was in a joust at a renaissance fair. There’s a prize for winning, however—her name is Cameron and she’s just as horrified by her medieval circumstances as Kyle. She needs his help badly to escape her would-be suitors. For Kyle, that means donning uncomfortable armor, galloping to victory on a stubborn steed and claiming a reward he never expected. If she’ll have him.

REVIEW:

Continuing to binge the Read Me Romance podcast with Tessa Bailey this week. I actually really enjoyed this story. It was short and sweet but had enough substance to leave me smiling. Especially that ending, cue the swoon! I mean Kyle just knows how to sweet talk a girl. But I’ve said this before and I will say it again, Tessa really knows how to balance romance with character connections. It isn’t all sex and hook up, Tessa can truly craft a connection between her characters.

And that was definitely the case with Kyle and Cameron. While they have an undeniable instant attraction, they get to know each other through kisses and confessions. While they learn about each other, they can’t deny their chemistry. The future may be uncertain and they both decide to live in the moment. This is sweet, endearing, and adorable even though when there was only 10 minutes left in the story, I was concerned with how Tessa was going to wrap it up.

But the ending was what really sold me on the story. I cannot get past the SWOON! Seriously, ya know in Beauty and the Beast when the girls swoon at Gaston in the bar…that was me at the end of this book. I really liked how the story line played out, I don’t need a ring and white-picket fence for a HEA. What I really need is hope that happiness is there for the characters and that’s exactly what Tessa deliveries.
