REVIEW:
This book was a little different for me in the Slow Burn series, in that I wasn’t instantly in love with it. In fact, I picked it up, read the first chapter, felt meh and set it aside for months. But as it has been taunting me from my bookshelf I decided to give it a go again. The timing was definitely right the second time around and I immensely enjoyed the story.
Joellen took a little to warm up to, in her head she is sassy, but in reality, she is walked all over. Which makes sense because I tend to favor strong heroines. But throughout the story we watch Joellen gain confidence, and transform from timid and meek, to bold and sexy. This story is so much more than a romance, its about self-discovery, self-confidence, and finding your voice. Joellen’s family was toxic and to see her accept herself for who she was and d*mn everyone else was awe-inspiring.
But lets really talk about Cameron because he was all the levels of SWOON. I don’t know why, but I’ve been feeling the Scotsmen lately and Cameron was no exception. From his rugged, tattooed appearance, to his cocky attitude, I can see the appeal Jo, really I can. So as Cam and Jo get to know each other, I start to ship this relationship hard. Their effortless banter had me in fits of giggles while the sexual tension between them is palpable. Only problem is that Jo is so dang distracted by Michael, she is blind to all Cam’s goodness…until she isn’t.
That’s when the fun really starts. When the realization and denial sets in. Watching everything play out tugged at my heart strings. But the ending left me feeling all the feels. I just sighed in contentment as I closed the book because it was just that delicious. This book and the series is something I will definitely be re-reading in the years to come. I adore this series.
