Review: River Marked by Patricia Briggs

REVIEW:
I have a love-hate relationship with this series, which is to my surprise is still going strong even though this particular book was published way back in 2011. I love a shifter book, really it’s one of my favorite troupes even though finding good ones is so hard. Which brings me to the Mercy Thompson series, in which Murphy’s Law prevails, anything that can go wrong in Mercy’s life, will.
So let me start with what I like. I have been waiting forever for Adam and Mercy to come together and get married. And this book finally gives me that! But their romance is far too short lived before something goes wrong…but more on that later. I loved that so many characters I adore are back in this series, the Pack, Jesse, Samuel, Bran, Stefan all make appearances and really ties in just how complex and unique this world is. I also really liked all the crazy new characters that were introduced as we get a greater insight into Mercy’s family history. I loved the details that came to light through this story and at times it felt like I was walking thought Native American folklore.
That being said, Mercy has the worst luck and all the books seem to have a re-occurring theme. Something goes horribly wrong, Mercy lands in the middle of it, and consequently saves the day. EVERY TIME. Now while this is fun and playful, it does become repetitious, hence me waiting almost a year before diving back into this series. I imagine I will read the next book at some point because like I said I am sucker for the shifters but I just wish the story line changed a little.
