I devoured this book, who was I trying to fool when I planned on savoring and reading this story at a leisurely pace?! One minute I was just taking a chapter break and the next time I look at the clock 3 hours have passed and I am 60% done…no shame in my game. Sally Thorne excels at writing captivating characters who are so strong. I think that is why I continue to return back to her writing time and time again. Her characters have lush, detailed histories, plenty of personal drama, diverse personalities, and strong narratives.
Darcy is a spitfire and I loved her quick wit, sassy personality, and dirty mouth. She had me in a fit of giggles and her determination and passion were admirable. Tom, first I love how simple this name is, but he was drop dead sexy, everything you imagine in a man who is consistently working hard on a construction site. But he was also insightful, tender, and vulnerable. So cue the instantaneous swoon when these two start battling their feelings for each other. I was a laughing, blushing fool. But d*mn I was ready to combust by the first kiss, I actually said “Finally” out loud! If you look up slow burn in the dictionary, their is a picture of Sally Thorne cackling (I swear!).
But the wait is totally worth it. These two are drawn to each other like moths to flames. I also loved how Jamie is a source of drama. It was such a refreshing narrative to see a male who wasn’t trying to get the girl causing trouble. Jamie was the perfect contrast to Darcy, sibling rivalry at it finest. Sally must have a brother because she really capture the true nature of sibling arguments!
The story flowed effortlessly. I absolutely loved the drama and tension between all of the characters. And while their are a lot of components floating around, its manageable. I was never overwhelmed with character facts. I think my only grip is that it wrapped up too fast and now I am left wanting more!
