So I’ve been reading this book as part of Rachel Van Dyken’s newsletter and when she finally announced she finished it and put it up on Amazon, I immediately went to one-click! This book is the story of Jax and Harley from Rachel’s Players Game Series (Fratenize & Infraction) both of which I adored. This book is something completely different from Rachel, as she tackles tough topics and emotionally guts you before putting you back together.
Harley and Jax are torn apart by a handful of unthinkable events. And I kid you not, I definitely cried and teared up more than once during this read. Jax is just filled with so much grief, guilt, and angst that he is bursting at the seams, his pain is palpable and real. When Harley seems to be getting a second chance and a clean slate, they can’t deny the chemistry between them. But love has one h*ll of a challenge when their is so much unspoken history.
Watching these characters trudge through so much hardship was pulling my heartstrings. By the end of the novel, I just wanted to cry happy tears and hug them both. I loved how everything wrapped up and how these characters were able to recover and carve out their normal. Nobody does HEAs like Rachel.
