REVIEW:
It’s been a while since I went back to my paranormal roots, so when I saw Chastely Bitten pop up on Kindle Unlimited, I decided to give it a go. And while the book wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great either. I am left feeling very meh about the whole thing and I don’t think I will be picking up book 2.
I liked the whole concept of the book, vampires and lycans rule the world and humans are property. But the problem here seems to be a lack of information. As vampire and lycan lore changes from story to story, you are never really clarified or provided what skills each species has, their strengths, or their weaknesses. You really don’t find out any information until the moment it happens. In some cases you don’t find out anything at all and are left floundering to make your own conclusions.
Darius and Juliet seem to have a forced relationship, correction their relationship has a hint of Stockholm syndrome. Darius bought Juliet as property and then the ‘fell in love’. Okay, its paranormal, I can still support this but what I didn’t like is the whole sharing that happened with Juliet. And yes, I am talking about sharing sexually, cue the endless cringing. I was so uncomfortable reading this and I wish there would have been a disclaimer or heads up, but I learned my lesson now. Do not click on Kindle Unlimited without doing thorough background research.
While the plot wasn’t bad, it was slow at times. I think the real issue here is the writing style. It doesn’t flow smoothly and because of this I was never transported into the story. I never felt like I was in the world they live in, I remained an outsider. I wanted to be teleported to their world and enraptured by the words on the page but the story doesn’t suck you in like that. In some cases it does the opposite and that left me disappointed in the end.
