Although he’s desperate for freedom, he is unable to deny the burning desire drawing him to the incubus general he now calls Master.

REVIEW:

This book and I, we were a total accident. I started reading my friends copy at book signing and I couldn’t put it down. So I had to dive into the wonderful world of Jex Lane. Captive has everything I want in a paranormal romance, from steaming hot sex scenes, to intense battles, to tender and harsh moments, I was captivated. A fast paced plot had me on the edge of my seat as I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next or what unexpected plot twist would pop up, and believe me, there were plenty.

Matthew is all the levels of swoon. I really loved learning all about him over the course of the story. He starts off as such a lost soul and really starts to figure out who he is and what he is as the story wraps up. I truly feel like Jex is only beginning to skim the surface with Matthew’s abilities, and that has me so excited for the next book. He is a delicious puzzle I can’t wait to solve.

High Lord General Tarrick and I have a deep love-hate relationship. He is cruel, brash, abrupt, and egotistical…yet he has his moments of tender care and a soft heart. I am just torn over him but at the end this book I was ready for him to go burn in a pit in the depths of hell. *sigh* men like Tarrick shouldn’t be given the type of power he has.

The romance in this story isn’t my usual taste but I enjoyed it none the less. Incubi are more of the sex with everyone variety. Male, females, no discrimination. Which makes it hard to tell when real feelings are being developed since incubi feed off of sexual energy. And with Matthew being the forbidden fruit of the incubi, lets just say I had read this book in the privacy of my own home because I was constantly blushing and looking like a d*mn tomato.

The mounting tension and endless battles from the centuries year old war was what really had me hooked. Why are the incubi and vampires at war? Witches, gargoyles, dragons. shape-shifters…I want to know more about all these species and how they affect the war. I am especially looking at you Hiroto…there best be more of him to come! As I closed the last page, I found a little bit of solace. Matthew is clearly going to be a powerhouse in this war, depending on how things play out but I have so many last minute questions…most importantly, why the f*ck was Matthew called a Prince?!
