Review: Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller
Alosa’s mission is finally complete. Not only has she recovered all three pieces of the map to a legendary hidden treasure, but the pirates who originally took her captive are now prisoners on her ship. Still unfairly attractive and unexpectedly loyal, first mate Riden is a constant distraction, but now he’s under her orders. And she takes great comfort in knowing that the villainous Vordan will soon be facing her father’s justice.
When Vordan exposes a secret her father has kept for years, Alosa and her crew find themselves in a deadly race with the feared Pirate King. Despite the danger, Alosa knows they will recover the treasure first . . . after all, she is the daughter of the Siren Queen.
REVIEW:
I didn’t know how badly I wanted a pirate based YA book until I finally read Tricia Levenseller. This duology has been an absolute delight to read. From the grit and grimmy life they lead, to the epic battle scenes, I as under the sirens’ charm. I couldn’t put this book down. The imagery transported me to the lush islands and open ocean while the adventure had me wondering what was going to happen next.
So first, I will dive into the characters, because their development was amazing this story. I was 100% here for Riden and Alosa, I will go down with this ship. They had me giggling and blushing like a fool, they test each other and push each others buttons and really I think they make each other stronger for it. I was all the levels of swoon! Alosa finally learns more about her siren side and how to balance her two halves. Riden comes to terms with his past and admits his feelings….resulting in me having all the feels. Alosa’s rag-tag crew was fantastic. Their banter, camaraderie and liveliness was the perfect way to break up the tense, action-packed plot.
The plot was phenomenon, rich with complex twists and turns that truly tested each character’s determination and will to live. From the ultimate betrayal to an epic chase, I was on the edge of my seat dying to know what would happen next. Alosa’s father truly lives up to his ruthless lore by the end of the book, I was ready to cheer with the crew when everything was said and done. There were plenty of dangerous and risky missions that did result in some death, but at the end of the day, Alosa’s care for her crew simply left me with all the warm-fuzzy feelings in my heart.
I cannot recommend this duology enough. It is such a masterful balance between heavy and light-hearted with relatable banter. Riden and Alosa’s sexual tension was perfectly balanced with their own hot-headed outbursts and well timed interruptions. There will be moments of laughter and heartache but in the end, it is an absolute must read!
