Review: Picture Perfect by Evangeline Anderson
SYNOPSIS:
Ever since Melanie’s mom married Kurt’s dad she’s had the hots for the gorgeous, off-limits guy. Another week and another new to me author from Read Me Romance that I definitely won’t be reading again. This book was absolutely not for me, in fact, I think I would go so far as to say the whole step-sibling troupe isn’t for me. As someone who grew up with 3 step-siblings of the opposite sex, this whole concept is disgusting to me. But that’s not what ruined the story.
First off, the book overused the words p*ssy and c*nt, along with the phrase “hot step-brother”. To the point where it was distracting because almost every other sentence in book had one of these words or phrases. I understand that Melanie and Kurt already have a history together, I can appreciate that. But girl, your ears are never so clogged you don’t hear a shower running…puh-lease.
Secondly, this was a classic erotica novel, well in this case novella, in which there is literally no substance outside of sex and sexual positions. While we know that Melanie and Kurt have history and their parents are married, we don’t learn anything else. And then the entire novel was centered around sexual poses and they getting intimate. I want substance in a book, something to drive the plot other than sex. So it was disappointing that this book didn’t have any substance.
In terms of character development…that was non-existent. Melanie seemed narcissistic and full of herself. She was brazen, overly confident, but oddly enough shy and inexperienced? Kurt, well you don’t learn much about him other than the size of his penis and that he is in shape and has a lot of self control. He has blue eyes and black hair…that’s it. Such a meh read, I am glad it’s over.
