Review: Tempting the Player by J. Lynn
He’s a player on and off the field…
Chad Gamble, all-star pitcher for the Nationals, is one of the best players on—and off—the field. And right now, the notorious bad boy wants Bridget Rodgers. But with her lush curves and snappy comebacks, the feisty redhead is the kind of woman a man wants to settle down with…and that’s the last thing Chad needs.
When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his meddling publicist says he’ll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend.
Being blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy, especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it’s going to take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed together…or in love.
REVIEW:
This book was steamy, dreamy perfection! I absolutely adored this quick, sexy read. From a chance first encounter to fate bringing them back together again, I was all the levels of swoon. I was giggling, cheering, and chastising these characters all at once and I can’t wait to read the next one.
So lets start with the characters, mainly my obsession with Chad. He is the definition of alpha male, dominant, sexy, cocky, confident and I was here for it! Underneath all that alpha is a tender heart who knows exactly what to say to sweep a lady off her feet. Bridget was a delight and relatable. Struggling with body insecurities, I found her scrutiny down-to-Earth and her inquisitive personality endearing. She is the type of character you can imagine being your best friend in real life. Alana, Chad’s babysitter is bat-sh*t crazy and I loved it! She did what she had to do make things happen and while cruel and brash, she had determination. Chase and Madison are back too and just as adorable as ever.
The pace of the story flowed much smoother than it’s predecessor. I found there was enough time and tension between Chad and Bridget that they were able to form a connection and still scorch the screen of my Kindle. A perfect balance of witty banter, opening up to each other, and falling in love. The scheming had me shaking my head and Chad’s confidence had me laughing out loud.
I think there is only one really large complaint I have, and that is there were 3 major scenes in which Chad’s name was accidentally switched with Chase’s name. This normally wouldn’t bother me but one was in the middle of a sex scene and it really took me out of the story when it happened. To the point where I paused and was like, hold up…I wish that the editor would have caught this or that someone would have noticed and pointed it out.
