Review: First and Forever by Jay McLean
First and Forever is the second book in the Heartache Duet, and must be read after Heartache and Hope.
There are no more goodnight kisses.
No knocks on windows.
No lengthy text messages.
No late-night phone calls.
And no game day balloons.
There’s just Connor.
And Ava.
Existing in a world filled with nothing but heartache.
While searching the darkness for glimmers of hope.
Because with hope, comes magic.
And magic is forever.

This book was all the feels and so much more! Heartache and Hope ended on an epic cliffhanger and I was dying to see how things played out. And let me tell you, Jay didn’t hold back. In a powerful story of fear, hope, secrets, redemption, and magic, my heart was torn apart before being put back together again and now the book hangover begins.
I love the pure, raw chemistry and emotions between Ava and Connor, there is just a connection their that can be shaken but not broken. Yet, this story was so much more than a fated romance, this was journey finding your voice and yourself when all seems lost. Ava explores the highs and lows of life, and truly hits rock bottom before finding herself and the help she truly needs to start fresh. Conner learns the difference between abandoning and leaving but also lets go of his past baggage.
Both Ava and Connor go on journeys to find themselves before they find each other. These periods of learning showed so much character growth and strength, they had my heart soaring. And just when the timing is perfect, Jay brings these two together and let me just tell you, I had the biggest cheeser grin on my face. Like my checks hurt from how much smiling I did in the last 10-20% of this story.
I love that all the previous dramas were answered, the plots were cleaned up and I got closure on not only Ava and Connor but all the secondary characters as well, Trevor and Amy, Miss D, Connor’s dad, I just feel that my heart is so full of contentment and happiness. That’s what this story was for me…my happiness.
