Review: Save the Date by Monica Murphy

SYNOPSIS:

Caroline Abbott knows her way around bridezillas.

Working at a stationery store means helping engaged couples pick out the perfect save-the-date
cards and invitations for their dream weddings—a dream job.

Until the bridezilla of the day belongs to her first kiss, Alexander Wilder. He’s all grown up now, running his family’s luxury hotel chain, and even hotter than she remembers from that scorcher of a smooch.

So when Caroline catches his fiancée half-naked with another man, she has to tell him. And Alex has to break it off. And of course, the ex-bridezilla goes completely bonkers.

Good thing Caroline has plenty of experience—and friends to help save her.

She also has the sudden interest of Alex, who has a proposal of his own for her. Is it just a rebound for him, or does he also feel the same spark that drew them together all those years ago?

REVIEW:

This book was adorable, the perfect romance read that left me with warm, fuzzy feelings and a lightness in my heart. I have been a long time fan of Monica Murphy and decided to try out this new series of hers and I have to say, this read hit the spot. Light topics, a general sense of friendship and camaraderie among the Caroline and her friends, and a sizzling chemistry carried the story.

I love Caroline and Alex’s history together, first kiss leads to me swooning endlessly when they re-connect. It was positively adorable and no matter the details, I think most people look back on their first kiss and remember something, if not every little detail about it. While things did happen fast between Caroline and Alex, I felt like there was an excellent balance of tender conversation and easy banter to balance out the palpable sexual tension between them.

There were plenty of micro-dramas to added to the story line and make you want to continue reading. But the major drama/twist that happened, well lets just say when that was revealed, I thought it was a little lack-luster. It didn’t deliver in terms of build-up. And while the story was cute, I was missing that enchantment and charm that draws me in. The story was missing that extra something that makes me clinging to every word Caroline and Alex shared.

Overall, it gives me the troupes I adore (second chances/fake relationships) but just missed the mark in terms of plot building dramas. I would give it 3.5 stars, something that’s enjoyable to read but won’t weigh you down. It’s playful and carefree, the ideal read for a lazy afternoon or over the course of the week.
