Review: The Governess Game by Tessa Dare

REVIEW:
Okay, I am officially on the historical romance bandwagon, all aboard…better late than never. This book was everything and so much more, I find myself becoming enchanted with 18th century England. The mannerisms, the defiance of women like Alexandra, and the whimsical writing transports me into a world I never want to leave.
While I adored Alexandra, Chase was really the star of this novel. I think it’s because he has the most at risk and the most to lose. Over the course of the story, Chase goes from being a loner to realizing that it’s okay to let people in. He not only has to forgive himself but he also has to be able to accept others’ feelings toward him, whether good or bad. His relationship with his pair of orphans is adorable. You see them build trust and learn to depend on each other and I was feeling all the feels!
Chase and Alexandra were a witty, brilliant pairing. They contrasted and complimented each other. It was a constant tug-o-war, with each character giving a little bit of themselves to get what they truly wanted. While Chase was raw male, rogue, stubborn, and set in his ways; it was charming to watch Alexandra come into his life and show him that he doesn’t know everything but also supporting her in her endeavors. They had me laughing out loud and then blushing like crazy.
The story line flowed effortlessly. I couldn’t help but to the turn page, dying to know what was going to happen next. This is just romance at its absolute best. The perfect side plots that ultimate center around and support the romance. It’s the type of story where just because it’s set in a different era doesn’t take away from the plot or suck me in any less. If anything, Tessa Dare’s writing style draws me in more and makes me want to pick up all her books.
