Review: It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas

SYNOPSIS:

Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.

It happened at the ball…

Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren’t entirely “the thing.” And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London’s most eligible aristocrat.

It happened in the garden…

When Marcus shockingly—and dangerously—swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn’t even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed… thank goodness they weren’t caught very nearly in the act.

It happened one autumn…

Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable… as his bride?

REVIEW:

Enemies to lovers historical romance…I am here for it! I was so excited for this story after seeing Westcliff and Lillian’s volatile relationship in the first book. And it absolutely lived up to my expectations. These two mix together like water and vinegar, they are constantly at each others throats but can’t avoid the undeniable current of chemistry that flows between them.

My favorite thing about this story was the tension and banter. Westcliff and Lillian’s jabs and endless arguing had me laughing out loud. Both are stubborn, bull-headed, and arrogant, I couldn’t get enough of them. They had an sizzling attraction to each other but they are blinded by their own stubbornness to notice or admit their feelings. But when these two finally did come together, it was worth every slow burn second. They are perfect together and had me endlessly swooning.

Even though miscommunication, competition, and a crazy old countess threaten to wreck havoc on their budding passion, I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to know more about St. Vincent. And I wanted to see how things played out. I was endlessly swooning from the charm and wit of both Westcliff and St. Vincent. But their is just something so satisfying about watching these wallflowers find husbands and true love. It just leaves me with a big cheesy grin on my face.

I think my only grievance in the story is that the descriptions are a little excessive. I find myself wanting to skip pages of imagery and get straight to the dialogue. But overall I enjoyed the book and already have the next one queued up on my Kindle.
