Review: Hello Forever by Sarina Bowen
When they were only teenagers, Axel and Caxton were caught making out in the woods at church camp. And afterward, Cax had disappeared from all the youth group activities.
Six years later Axel is astonished to spot his first love’s face in the crowd of a college basketball game he’s watching on television – at a school that has just offered him a job. It’s a thousand miles away, in a tiny rural town. But suddenly he can’t wait to get there.
Cax can’t believe his eyes when Axel appears in the same Massachusetts town where he now lives. And he’s still just as drawn to him as ever. But he can’t let himself go there again, because loving Axel will mean giving up everything else he holds dear.
Both men have so much to lose. But as far as their love is concerned, it’s Hello Forever.
REVIEW:
This book was sizzling hot with a super heavy plot line. I wasn’t ready for the amount of discrimination, harassment, and bigotry this book had. I haven’t come across such a toxic character in a long time and as always, I am sure it’s the type of story that needs to be told but it was heavy to process none-the-less.
Axel and Cax have a deep rich history and an undeniable chemistry. From hidden high school lovers, they fell right back into their ways post-college. While they were torn apart, they found their way back to each other and talked it out. I loved as they un-hashed their history, I learned more about each of them, but it also solidified the bond the two shared. Their chemistry in the bedroom was off the charts, as was the sexual tension between the two. Effortless conversations, easy banter, it just seems natural that these two are destined for each other. But Cax’s father doesn’t think so.
Cax’s father is the worst kind of person and his presence had this book going from a light-hearted read to a heavy story really fast. It was brutal to watch the pain of these two suffering at his hateful comments. And things only got more desolate from there. A startling harsh reality that prejudices exists and it never just impacts one person.
In the end, Axel and Cax got to the happily-ever-after they truly deserved. I felt that there were several things that could have been wrapped up, like what happened with Cax’s father, what about Mark, and how intertwined were Caleb and Jason in Axel and Cax’s future? I could have used several more chapter to clean up a few loose ends and give me the closure that I wanted.
