Review: Damaged Like Us by Krista & Becca Ritchie
Don’t date your bodyguard.
It was the one rule he had to break.
Maximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible — the twenty-two-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. By noon, lunch can turn into a mob of screaming fans. By two, his face is all over the internet.
Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth.
He is certified American royalty.
When he’s assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who’s known for “going rogue” in the security team — and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff’s sexual fantasies.
Twenty-seven-year-old Farrow Keene has one job: protect Maximoff Hale. Flirting, dating, and hot sex falls far, far out of the boundary of his bodyguard duties and into “termination” territory. But when feelings surface, protecting the sexy-as-sin, stubborn celebrity becomes increasingly complicated.
Together, boundaries blur, and being exposed could mean catastrophic consequences for both.
The Like Us series is a true series, one continuous timeline, that follows a family of wealthy celebrities and the people that protect them. Damaged Like Us can be read and enjoyed without reading any of Krista & Becca’s other novels.
REVIEW:
So I have been stalking this series for a while now and one blissful day it popped up free on Amazon. At that moment, I heard the angels singing and it was time to finally dive into this world. And let me tell you, this book was everything I hoped for and so much more!
At first the character dump seems a little overwhelming. There are overlapping characters from other series by the Ritchie sisters and I didn’t read those but after I got used the names and figured out whose family tree everyone belonged to, the story flowed effortlessly. It was one of those books where I want to speed read and devour every single word yet at the same time I want to slowly savor it because I am loving the story that much.
Starting off with the plot, a forbidden romance is like cat-nip for me. Add in the fact that these two are ‘enemies’ and get on each others nerves…HERE. FOR. IT. These two have such a magnetic chemistry and there past history only added to the swoon factor. I loved that Maximoff is learning to trust and experience things he never has. And Farrow, while all hard edges, is a softy on the inside. They are just so perfect for each other. And while I normally wouldn’t think that two dominate personalities would come together so seamlessly, Maximoff and Farrow push and pull each other in ways that make me better and strong than they were alone.
And that is what I loved the most about this story. Maximoff and Farrow just get each other. They understand one another on a deeper level. The drama isn’t their relationship, it’s the public’s and Maximoff’s families perception that is the issue. There relationship was built on solid foundation and they aren’t breaking or bending for anyone. As drama unfolds, Maximoff and Farrow stand solid and that is what has me rushing to one-click the next story.
