Review: Status Update by Annabeth Albert

SYNOPSIS:

Adrian Gottlieb is winning at life. He’s a successful video game designer with everything a man could ask for, including a warm comfy ride to Denver and a date for his sister’s wedding. But he finds himself in need of a total reboot when he’s left stranded at a snowy campground in Utah. Holiday plans? Epic fail.

That is until Noah Walters offers him shelter for the night and a reluctant cross-country ride. Nothing about the ultraconservative geoarchaeologist should attract Adrian, but once he discovers Noah’s hidden love for video games, the two connect on a new level. Soon, a quiet but undeniable chemistry sparks.

Something doesn’t add up, though. As the miles accumulate and time runs out, Noah must face the most difficult choice of his life. Meanwhile, Adrian must decide whether he’s ready to level up. Is their relationship status worth fighting for, or has this game ended before it’s even begun?

REVIEW:

This book was a delightful, quick, light-hearted read. I was looking for another m/m series to dive into but didn’t want to be emotionally drained as I closed the last page. Status Update was the perfect solution. A tender romance, light drama, self-discovery, and a happily-ever-after, what more could a girl want?

Adrian and Noah start off with a reluctant yet adorable meet cute and as I continued watching these two fall into each others orbit, I couldn’t help but swoon. Noah has locked away his sexuality and any hopes for love…until Adrian blows into his life. Adrian makes Noah question everything in life and along the way, they find love. There were some tense moments, but the romance is so very sweet.

Annabeth Albert tackles a few tough topics with grace and skill and still keeps the story light. I loved how Adrian and Noah work things. While it seemed like they fell in love fast, the relationship didn’t feel rushed. They had plenty of time to build a deeper connection and had numerous heart-to-hearts that had me sighing in content. Just a quick, cute, nerdy read.
