Review: Devil’s Kiss by Ella Frank

SYNOPSIS:

What do you do when the one you least expect to matter…

Ends up mattering the most?

Derek Pearson likes to think he’s an easygoing guy. Uncomplicated, upfront, and unapologetic with what he wants. His what you see is what you get attitude is on prominent display for anyone who cares to look, and his foul mouth is right there to back it up should you miss the point.

However, what you see isn’t always what you get, and only a select few have ever glimpsed the real man under the brash exterior.

Among them? Professor Jordan Devaney. Complicated, high-maintenance, and vibrant, he’s Derek’s opposite in every way. From the moment they saw each other, a love-hate relationship began.

But what happens when one person wants more?

REVIEW:

This book put my heart through the ringer. I wasn’t anticipating how truly gutting Derek’s story was going to be. And through it all these characters finally got the happily-ever-after they deserved…but d*mn did it take a long *ss time to get there.

I won’t lie, a lot of the story is heavy. Heavy on the heart and rightfully so because Derek has not had an easy life. There were numerous moments where I clutched and rubbed my chest, my heart aching. I desperately wanted solace for these characters. And unfortunately for Derek, the hits kept coming. The guy couldn’t seem to catch a break and when things would start to look up, something would happen to bring him right back down.

Jordan was Derek’s opposite in every, single way. He was a vibrant ray of sunshine in the darkness. He brought much needed humor, balance, and light to Derek’s life. But Jordan wasn’t without his shortcomings. Mainly, his relationship-phobia. I swear any time commitment was mention, the man broke out in hives. He was so brilliant yet so blind to his own feelings.

Ella balances out the heavy with some sizzling hot sex. And try as they may to deny their chemistry, Jordan and Derek just work together. With words unspoken, Jordan always seems to know what Derek needs. And Derek is the purpose that Jordan’s life so desperately needed. It took over a decade for them to realize it and there were definitely moments I wanted them to pull their heads out their arses but when they finally come together for good, my heart was soaring. I was smiling and thinking, finally these characters get the closure they need.

These tender, sweet men work out their relationship and mend friendships. They severed the toxicity out and finally come out stronger on the end. The epilogue was potentially the cutest thing ever. And now that the story is over, I honestly don’t know what I will read next. Hello, book hangover.
