Review: Trick Play by Eden Finley

SYNOPSIS:

Matt:
Want to know the fastest way to get screwed out of a football career? Get photographed in a compromising position in a gay bar. Yep, welcome to my life.

My agent says he can fix my image. He wants me to become the poster boy for gay football players. Me? I just want back on the field. I’ll do anything to play for the NFL again, even pretend to have a steady boyfriend. If only my fake boyfriend wasn’t Noah Huntington III—the most arrogant, entitled rich guy in the world.

Noah:
Pretend to be Matt Jackson’s boyfriend, my best friend said. It’ll be fun, he said. What Damon neglected to mention is Matt is surly and bitter. Being his boyfriend is a job in itself. From his paranoia over being constantly photographed to his aversion to PDA, being with Matt isn’t the care-free fake relationship I expected when I signed on to do this.

It’s supposed to be a win-win. I get to stick it to my politician dad who thinks no one is good enough for the Huntington name, and Matt’s reputation of being the bad boy of football dies.

What I don’t expect is to start caring for the guy. That’s not part of the plan. Then again, neither is fooling around with him on my private jet.

Oops.

REVIEW:

I’m not a big sports romance reader, but books like this could definitely change my mind. I think this story might be the best of both worlds, with an enemies-to-lovers and a fake-date troupe, I mean honestly, what’s not to love?!

Upon these two getting together, there is an instantaneous animosity. Matt is liked a spooked, stray cat; he is jumpy, trusts no-one, jaded, and scares easily. But once you get past his tough exterior, is a man with a heart of gold. In comparison, Noah was someone I was intrigued by in Fake Out and his story had me feeling everything. He was just putting on a facade and playing the rich, *ss-hole because that was what his friends expected of him. Matt instantly sees through the act and these two begin to circle around each other.

Until they finally give in. And when they do, it was pure bliss. Matt and Noah just work together, they seamlessly fall into an easy friendship and ‘fake’ relationship with witty banter as they slowly peel back each others’ protective walls. The sex is off the charts, these two tender men were pure fire together. They are so gone for each other and don’t even realize it. But the drama this time isn’t themselves…it’s family. Matt’s family is a hot mess and Noah’s dad is the absolute worst!

Eventually Matt’s little brother, Jet arrives in the form of a pleasant surprise. He comes just when things start to get tense and adds comic relief and clarity. You get plenty of glimpses of Maddox and Damon, and Damon is still the amazing guy willing to sacrifice for those he cares about. And you still have the rag-tag team of friends whose stories I can’t wait to read next.
