Review: Lust Hate Love by Ella Frank & Brooke Blaine
USA TODAY bestselling authors Brooke Blaine and Ella Frank continue the story of sexy Fallen Angel rockers Killian and Levi in LUST. HATE. LOVE.
As the sexy, charismatic bassist for world-famous rock band Fallen Angel, whatever Killian Michaels wants, Killian Michaels gets.
Or at least that was the case until the band’s gorgeous new manager, Levi Walker, shot him down after a blistering first kiss.
For Levi, managing these five guys is the opportunity of a lifetime, and he’s not about to let a case of sexual desire get in his way. He’s efficient, professional, and plays by the book. But tension simmers beneath Levi’s cool exterior every time Killian’s near, and soon enough the passion boils over, consuming them both.
As the Corruption tour takes them from country to country, a heated game of cat and mouse ensues. Levi tries to deny the irresistible pull of Killian’s seductive nature, but with an attraction as strong as theirs, it’s only a matter of time before the lust-filled hate turns to love.
REVIEW:
I have some serious mixed feeling about this story. From the focus of the romance between Killian and Levi, it was pretty good. These two had some serious chemistry and miscommunication after miscommunication just seemed to keep them from coming together. But there was just something off with the story.
I think it stems from the fact that Levi and Killian’s romance is overshadowed by the other romances in the book. The back story of Imogen with Slade and Jagger, and Viper and Halo just simply wouldn’t allow Killian his moment in the sun. And when the focus was on Killian and Levi, it was all about their time in the bedroom. While these two were seriously sexy, they didn’t have a lot of substance to them. I wanted more back stories on these men. I wanted more depth and heart instead of rushed romance.
There were a handful of giggle-worthy scenes that had me blushing and laughing out loud but there were also moments where I found myself no longer captivated by the world. Killian was endlessly pursuing Levi and what should have been a sexy game of cat and mouse was actually kind of pitiful. I mean Killian wanted in Levi’s pants for 6 months but didn’t know that Levi had a twin or practically anything about Levi’s personal life. Then suddenly they are in love. Actually after they finally hook up, a whole rush of insta-love followed.
I was rolling my eyes because there were no tender, stolen moments like the previous books in the series. And I think this was due to so much getting lost in the details. I found myself sitting her wondering what the h*ll Imogen did for a living that she could just fly around the world to watch shows. Also the whole threesome with Imogen, Slade, and Jagger just didn’t work for me. If anything it derailed from the fluidity of the story. I wish Ella and Brooke would have kept it as a one-time thing that the characters kept secret.
I pondered what the record label thought of all these intra-band relationships. I mean anytime punches were swung it seemed like no repercussions ever occurred. That was the type of drama I wanted to watch play out, not Halo finding out about Imogen. Meh, I need a break from these rockstars.
