Review: Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat

REVIEW:
This book was wild, that’s the only way I can sum it up. C.S. Pacat throws us into this gritty, ruthless world and I can’t get enough of it. It has taken me almost a week to sit down and write this review and I am still not sure my words will do it justice.
The story follows two broken princes, Damen and Laurent. Damen has just lost everything and struggling with his new reality. In all honesty, the man was a pillar of strength and determination that left me awe. I have no doubt he is going to raise h*ll and cause chaos in the upcoming novels. In comparison, Laurent is a sadistic puppeteer, he is a complicated puzzle I can’t even begin to solve, every scene he was in left me intrigued and begging for more. I was left with the ever lingering questions of who is the real Laurent and just what is his end game.
The tension and animosity between these two was palpable. This tension carried the story. In the face of endless betrayals, these two kept hating each other and having each others backs. Honestly, this was some Stockholm syndrome sh*t and I was here for it! Would they hate f*ck each other, or kill each other first? I still don’t know!
The world seems on the brink of war and collapse, both kingdoms struggling with their tentative reality. A scandalous, harsh setting where one wrong move could get you killed. This novel laid the foundation for the rest of the trilogy. It is blatantly clear that a battle is coming and I just don’t know whose side these characters will be on with the vast sea of lies and deceit between them. Okay, time to start the next book.
