Review: One Time Only by Lauren Blakely

SYNOPSIS:

A fiery, passionate MM romance novel from #1 New York Times Bestselling author Lauren Blakely…

Ever hear the story about the bodyguard who falls for the rock star?
Yeah, it never ends well.
Each day I remind myself that it’s my job to protect Stone. And nowhere in the job description does it say I should lust after the charismatic, charming rock star.
But every night I spend with him the attraction grows more intense, electric, undeniable.
Until one night in a limo when we combust.
One time only will have to be enough.
Because the mistakes from the past are chasing me.
And If I give in again, I might lose everything.
Good thing I’m strong, determined, and dedicated to resisting him.
But after a close call at his concert, all bets are off.
And in his hotel room, we strike a brand new deal.
One that can’t end well for me, but I do it anyway. Because sometimes you grab hold of the desire. And other times, the desire takes hold of you.

REVIEW:

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The tension and angst set up for a delicious slow-burn romance. Jackson and Stone make for a playful pair, their banter is fantastic and the forbidden aspect just adds a layer of richness to the story.

As my first full-length Lauren Blakely novel, I can definitely say I will be checking out her other works. There is just something about this couple that pulled me in and had me begging for more. Jackson and Stone were solid. I loved that they were pretending that one time was enough, while secretly pining for each other. Their feelings and passion were rock steady. Their relationship wasn’t plagued with insecurities and lies, which is typical in rock-star romances. Instead, these two needed to overcome the minor detail that Jackson works for Stone….oh and the internet is shipping them hard.

Their family dynamics added another layer to the story and had me viewing both men in a new, tender light. But I really loved that while they may want to jump each other, there was so much more depth to their relationship. They put in the time and effort to become friends and build something deeper before giving into their desires. And the build up was worth the wait. These two had me blushing up a storm from their dirty talk and steamy scenes.

These sizzling scenes were balanced with sweet confessions and whispered truths that had me soaring. Stone had so many swoony moments and honestly the ending had me flying high. It was so stupidly adorable that just thinking about it makes me smile. Lauren Blakely gives not one but two epilogues that give me the happily-ever-after details I only dream about. This is how rock star romances are done right.
