REVIEW:
I saw this book when it first came out a few months ago and knew I would love it if I was in the right mood. The synopsis sucked me in and promised me a world of feels so I waited till I was ready. And I am so glad I did because I honestly couldn’t put the book down.
An achingly beautiful story of a second-chance romance. Wild and Jax were absolutely everything; dynamic characters, complex pasts, intertwined histories, and everything stacked against them. But A.M. Johnson did these boy justice and both men grew so much over the course of the story. From their unconventional reacquaintance to the depth of pain both characters carry around, it is clear neither received closure on their past. They have so many tender and vulnerably moments as the truth starts to reveal itself. Wild find forgiveness and closure while Jax finds his voice, both men were willing to risk it all for love.
I couldn’t help but fall in love and cheer them on. Were there moments when Wild’s over-the-top dramatics drove me crazy, yes. And there were definitely times I want to shake some sense into Jax but alas the Kindle limits my abilities. When things between Jax and Wild seemed too heavy, the secondary characters added the light-hearted, familial touch to bring some air to the story. Wild’s best friends, June and Gwen, were too sweet for words and I am so intrigued by his agent, Anders. Then there is Jax’s new friend and confident, Ethan and I can’t wait for his story. These characters added reason and solace that made me smile.
I think my only gripe is that I wished they would have talked things out more before jumping into bed. While their bodies may have remembered their sizzling chemistry, I wish Jax and Wild laid their souls bare before intimately reconnecting. Mostly because once they started sex, it became the driving force behind a lot of scenes and took away from what should have been moments of healing and forgiveness. Otherwise, I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
