Review: Trusted Bond by Mary Calmes
Jin Rayne is having trouble adjusting to the new life he’s supposed to love. Instead of adapting to being the mate of tribe leader Logan Church, Jin can’t get past the fact that his lover was straight before they met. He’s discovered the joy in belonging to Logan but fears his new life could disappear at a moment’s notice, despite Logan’s insistence that they are forever, end of story.
Jin wants to trust Logan, but that desire will be put to the test both by a rival tribe leader and by a startling revelation about Jin’s existence. At stake is Jin’s life and his place in the tribe. If he’s going to survive to see Logan again, he’ll have to release his fear and freely accept the bond, for only then can he truly trust.
REVIEW:
This book was wild, like Mercy Thompson series level of chaos. And I’ll be honest, I kinda loved it. Like Jin could not catch a break to save his life and every chapter the man just dug himself into a deeper hole. Oh he was kidnapped, oh he was tortured, oh he was held against his will…the list goes on. This twisted world of shifters just became so much more complex.
Jin is a man with baggage…the only problem is his past will come back to haunt him. So there is that hidden danger but also future dangers from those who have far more power then Jin (at least I think they have more power but time will tell). I think this story was a testament to Jin’s inner strength but also a proving point that the politics of tribe life are seedy and dirty at best. Many view Jin as an object and that truly breaks my heart. The man is so much more and he continues to prove everyone wrong.
In terms of his relationship with Logan, they really have come so far. They are more trusting and although it sometimes feels like pulling teeth to get Jin to open up, he is become more honest and finally starting to believe in their bond. Let’s not forget how steamy the scenes between Logan and Jin can be either, their passion is raw and tangible. And while I loved how much these two grew over the book, there is one flaw to me that continues to stand out…Jin is too forgiving.
There are so many characters who need to be offed and each time Jin extends forgiveness….I just feel my stomach drop because I know that is going to come back to bite him. It is like a bad omen, particularly Jin’s horrid family. I mean honestly their is an enemy list a mile long…and I have a feeling we are gonna start checking people off it in the next story.
