Review: Honored Vow by Mary Calmes
SYNOPSIS:
Jin Rayne is still growing into his frightening new powers as a nekhene cat and his place as reah of Logan Church’s tribe when he learns that a sepat, an honor challenge, has been called. Logan, who has never wanted to do anything but lead his small-town tribe, must travel around the world to Mongolia and fight to become the most powerful leader in the werepanther world.

REVIEW:
Okay, I have to disclaimer that this cover is awful and easily ranks as one of the worst covers I have come across and then actually read the story. Thankfully I am already invested in these characters but this story was a lot to dissect.
It’s been hours since I finished the book and the more I think about it, the less I liked how this story played out. All the progress and trust that Logan and Jin developed in the first 2 books of the series was thrown out the window. Jin, who is such a stickler for panther law and ways, doesn’t even respect Logan enough to listen to him. And when these things blow up in his face, which they always do, he is easily forgiven. Basically, I found Jin to be a self-centered, egotistical brat in this book, which was infuriating to say the least.
The beginning of the book is absolutely horrific, Mary Calmes did Crane dirty. But I think my problem is the author continuously comes for the good guys, over and over again but yet the bad guys continue to skip along their merry ways. Even Jin, who has been hunted/attacked by numerous people still doesn’t want them killed and we all know it’s going to come back to haunt him. And again, for some reason all these panther laws don’t apply to Jin? The laws and politics aren’t clearly laid out so this is just one big giant plot hole, wrapped in an attempted loop hole.
That doesn’t even touch on the fact that any time their is tension or a life-death situation, it is solved by Logan and Jin having sex…90% of the time their isn’t even lube. *face-palm* I mean I get it, they are part panther and their is a way to address their animal side, but this ain’t it. The only saving grace was the strength, power, and evolution of the secondary characters. This rag-tag tribe really shows up and saves the day. Crane finds himself, Yuri finds love, Domin surprises me endlessly throughout the book, and Mikhail even softens and shows some vulnerability.
