Review: Forging the Future by Mary Calmes
SYNOPSIS:

I don’t think hate is the right word but I really, really, really didn’t like this book. In fact, I think the series should have ended after the third book. This story was riddled with so many plot holes, random character arcs, and overall I am just extremely unhappy with how it all played out.
First the plot holes, which I can’t even deal with. For example, in book 1, Logan is relaying to Jin how the house, mountainside, and his shop are his. Not the tribes but his…turn around to this book, that’s no longer the case? Russ goes from actually liking Jin in previous books to becoming the bad guy? Koren was chronically cheating on Danny but Danny suddenly finds his mate with no previous mention? Like there was a chapter where Danny was alone, and then the next chapter he is sailing off into the sunset while I was left wondering what the f*ck just happened.
Logan’s entire tribe suddenly turns their back on him? Jin was feeling the betrayal and frustration for a moment there and I was with him in his outrage. I am just so frustrated, there was no flow or fluidity to this story it was just a thought purge and then the last couple chapters attempting to wrap everything up nicely.
Spoiler alert…it was not done well. The main story line with Jin and Logan revolves around Jin leaving and losing his memories temporarily. Which ultimately stems from Peter (Logan’s father) bringing Ilia to the pit. AND I NEVER EVEN GOT AN ANSWER AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. I am p*ssed about this, why would Peter bring a child to the pit when Logan and Jin both forbid it? Honestly, their wasn’t enough bloodshed in this story. Peter should have died, Russ should have died, Koren’s fickle *ss should have died. I am just done with these characters.
The story didn’t give me that satisfied feeling as it concluded. I didn’t feel like there was closure. The ending was extremely rushed and while Logan and Jin did get a happily-ever-after, they deserved so much more. They were just treated so poorly by the people who were supposed to champion them and this just left me feeling disappointed.
