Review: Lola & the Millionaires: Part Two by Kathryn Moon
Lola is being hunted by her past, stalked with every step she takes. Sheltered with the pack of her dreams, at first it seems like the hardest challenge isn’t even staying safe from Indy. Tensions at work are at a tipping point and after taking the role of management’s spy, Lola’s in the crossfire if anything goes wrong.
As romances between Lola and the pack members are developing left and right, the woman who swore she wanted nothing to do with alpha is turning to them like a bloom to the sun. If only it weren’t just one monstrous alpha that twisted her own thoughts. Lola is quickly realizing that her worst enemy is herself, and it’s like walking the tightrope to find a balance with the pack that gives her strength rather than sends her toppling to the ground.
But Indy won’t be ignored. One way or another, he’s determined to get his hands on her again. Lola needs more than a pack to shield her. She needs to be ready to fight.
REVIEW:
This book was good, not great…but I definitely enjoyed it. Part One laid the foundation for Lola in her relationships with the pack. Part Two is all about Lola finding her closure on the past and finding her fit in the pack.
So what I liked, I think it goes without saying, Leo was perfection. I absolutely adored how fiery and determined Rake was to get his way. The dynamic amongst the men in the pack is top notch. The passion, comradery, and general awareness and care for one another is really what made this story stand out to me. These men had a solid bond before Lola and Lola just enhanced it. This story was really more about Lola furthering her relationships with the alphas in the group, both emotionally and physically.
And this is where the story wavered a little for me. I really enjoyed Lola developing her relationship with Matthieu and Caleb. But her relationships with Cyrus and Wes felt rushed to me. In addition, whenever Lola was intimate with Caleb, Cyrus, or Wes…she suddenly started addressing them as alpha, which I thought was weird and it really threw me out of the story. We spent all of Part One getting Lola to think of these men as people and not alphas, so her starting to address everyone as alpha felt like a significant backtrack.
Furthermore, we spent Part One and the first half of this book with Lola playing the “poor, broken beta” card and she has a minor freak out that brings everything to a head. I found this to be super repetitive and annoying. Either she was going to grow as a character or not but it was time because it was starting to feel like she was toying with the men, regardless of her “negative” internal dialogue or not. Deal with your issues girl!
But Lola had her moment of redemption for me as absolutely loved how everything with Indy played out and the ending. The ending was feels for days. Some of the steamiest sex scenes I’ve ever read, all my lingering questions wrapped up, and the HEA I desperately wanted. So if you can grind through Lola being a dramatic brat mid book, the ending is worth it.
