Review: Inside Affair by Ella Frank
Xander
If I had to describe Sean Bailey, it would be: a surly, temperamental pain in my ass. Never in that equation would I ever include the word boyfriend—and not just because he’s straight.
The older brother of my life-long best friend, Sean is a detective for the Chicago PD, and is also known as Detective “Dick” for being…well, a surly, temperamental pain in everyone’s ass. He also happens to be the best they have, which is why I find myself on his doorstep the night my life is threatened by an anonymous stalker.
I only wanted the name of a bodyguard; I didn’t expect for Sean to volunteer for the job. Now, not only do I have a bodyguard, I also have a fake boyfriend.
Sean
It must be so hard to be Alexander Thorne, the number one prime-time news anchor in the country, with millions of dollars and a car that costs more than my house. I mean, I’m allowed to give him a hard time about it, but when some creep decides to cross the line and go after him, they’re gonna have to answer to me.
Going undercover has never been an issue in the past, so I don’t see why there’d be a problem now. Xander and I have known each other for years, so this should be a breeze. Except suddenly my stomach’s flipping when he looks my way, and my body comes alive whenever he brushes by me. I know I’m good at my job and playing a character and all, but this is getting out of hand.
I can’t be sure that either of us are playing anymore.
REVIEW:
One word to describe this book…CLIFFHANGER. I don’t know why I like to blissfully pretend Ella Frank isn’t going to rip my heart out, but here we are again. So glad I waited to start this series until it was finished because I am about to get my binge read on.
This story is the most sensual of slow-burns. Honestly, at 50% I was wondering if Xander and Sean were even going to kiss in this book. And that was exactly how the story needed to be paced. Sean has been portrayed throughout numerous books (Ella Frank’s Confession Series) now as Detective “Dick”. Over the course of this story, we learn that is all really a front he puts on so he doesn’t get hurt. I loved the transformation of Sean in this book, not only the physical appearance but also the emotional changes as well.
Xander was also portrayed as a steadfast, confident man. He knew who he was, what he wanted, and the stalker situation shook him to his core. As Xander becomes more fearful and vulnerable over the stalking situation, Sean does too. And here in, we find that these two characters have way more in common than we ever thought. I loved how these two had the best banter, it was almost a reminder of the fine line between love and hate. These two would be at each other necks trying to start and finish an argument. But along the way, arguments gave way to tender, heartfelt confessions. It had me endlessly swooning because both these men were so much more than I thought.
Just when things start to pick up and get steamy, Ella throws in a curve ball of epic proportions. I mean the last chapter of this book is absolutely wild and left me reeling! It leaves me both nervous and excited for the next book in the series, which you guessed it…I already downloaded to my Kindle.
