Review: Fire in the Heart by Hailey Turner
Surrender to vows.
Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin has come a long way since being turned into a metahuman, and all he wants to do is marry the man he loves. A wedding is easy, but it’s the honeymoon where his past unexpectedly catches up with him.
A future together.
All Agent Sean Delaney wanted was a romantic honeymoon with his new husband. When he and Alexei stumble into a fellow operative’s mission on the luxury gambling resort island Fortuna-sur-mer, they get more than they bargained for in their newly-minted civilian lives.
Destined to burn.
Forced to choose between staying and joining the mission or leaving to stay safe and postpone their honeymoon, Alexei and Sean make the only decision they can—to fight.
REVIEW:
This novella was sweet and spicy and I couldn’t get enough of it. The wedding between Alexei and Sean was so adorable and endearing, I swear I was sitting here with hearts in my eyes as I read it. But it wouldn’t be a Hailey Turner book if there wasn’t some heat. Sean and Alexei are scorching in their chemistry and passion, their love is tangible and I couldn’t stop swooning.
I loved the surprise twist that happens on the honeymoon. It is the one storyline that I felt we never truly got closure on so I am glad to see that this novella sort of sets the stage for the final book. I loved the chaos and how danger seems to find them even when all Sean and Alexei want to do is enjoy their time together. It seems that no matter how hard Alpha Team tries to retire, life keeps pulling them back to service. I can’t wait to dive into the last book.
