Review: Show Me by Neve Wilder

SYNOPSIS:

Two Roommates. One Camera. A whole lot of action.

I get crushes the way some people get seasonal allergies.
And sharing a house with four hot roommates is like being stuck in permanent spring.
Too bad I keep getting friend-zoned.

But it’s senior year now, and I’m done pining for the impossible.
Time to live it up and go out with a bang.
Or a lot of bangs.

And I’m definitely, definitely not getting attached to anyone.
Especially not my straight, gym-loving, football-player roommate Sam whose impressively large… smile I caught a glimpse of once.
Or several times.

That’s why, when Sam asks me for help with a very special, very NSFW project so he can make a little cash, of course I agree. In the name of friendship.

And if it turns out that Sam’s more than just muscles—that he’s sweet, and smart, and a little bit filthy, and a whole lot less straight than I thought—well, that’s neither here nor there, because this time I’m gonna be smart. This time, I’m friend-zoning myself.

We’ve got a list of deliciously hot scenarios, a camera, and Sam’s huge… smile. What could possibly go wrong?

REVIEW:

This story was super sexy and super unexpected. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Jesse but it wasn’t this, the man was a wild card in the best possible way. From the earlier books you continuously hear about how Jesse is a sweet cutie who can cook but I was delighted to learn he was sassy, confident, daring, and sexy too. Now add in a questioning, football player and some camera time and they were tearing up the screen of my Kindle.

Sam kind of felt like an oaf during his first few mentions, his laid back personality and go with the flow vibe had me concerned he was going to be a dumb jock but the man was actually brilliant. He not only had some depth to him but I really loved his journey throughout this book to his own sexual identity. As Jesse and Sam go from filmer and performer to shared camera time, the tension between them seemed to continue to grow. I loved the transition from roommates to friends to something more that they refused to label. But when everything came to a head in the story it had me grinning from ear to ear with the fallout and playout.

But I did think the whole filming NSFW videos was enough to carry the plot along with the budding romance. Jesse’s ex from freshman year, Reid, starts to creep back into the picture. And it felt like he was just their to create drama and none of it contributed positively to the storyline. It wasn’t bad enough with how poorly he treated Jesse the first time around but then he tries to use Jesse again and I nearly lost it and tossed my Kindle across the room. He was the absolute worst.

Yet thanks to Reid, he pushes the love confession between Sam and Jesse, which was so endearing I swear I had hearts in my eyes. But better yet, I loved seeing their relationship still thriving and just as sexy years later. I love how something as taboo as making videos is normalized in this book, it was such a unique and refreshing plot line. The epilogue was amazing and I am low-key hoping Cam gets a book too!
