Review: Of Redemption and Vengeance by Alice Winters

SYNOPSIS:

Emery
It all comes down to this.

I should have known my freedom from Mercer would only last so long before my pack was hunted down and I was dragged back into it all. It’s suffocating being back in this place that twisted my shifter side forever and threatened to change who I am. But this time is different.

Because I’m not alone.

As threats to us and our pack pile up, I’m forced to rely on Graham, the overly protective shifter I feel a strange pull toward. We know we have to get away to warn the others of what’s to come, but with Mercer’s shifters breathing down our necks, we’re being thrust into a fight for our lives. We are determined to make it back to the pack and tear down the threat before it consumes all of us.

Graham
I’ve literally never met a more stubborn man in my life than Emery, yet I can’t get him out of my head. He covers up his insecurities and concerns with snark and teasing, but I know that underneath it all is a man who just wants someone to give him a chance. And I’m prepared to be that person if we can fight our way through this. First, we have to escape the threat left behind by Mercer, but escaping isn’t enough. We need to destroy everything the group’s ever worked for to keep each other and our pack safe.

REVIEW:

An action-packed, plot-twist filled conclusion to an enjoyable series. While the series and this book is super light on the romance,  the story line was definitely strong enough to stand on it’s own. Even if I desperately wanted more romance for both Emery and Graham and Quinn and Rowan.

My heart ached for Emery on this journey, the man truly cannot catch a break. He just wants to live with Quinn’s pack and settle down and life continues to drag him through the mud. As a character, he is so strong and resilient…not to mention his dry humor had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. In contrast, I loved how Graham was a steady constant. The man is a pillar of support and was the perfect partner for Emery. But I wanted more romance and less constant peril, especially after the last two books.

In terms of plot, there was a lot to take in this time around. And again, the running theme is you can’t trust anyone, even the people claiming to keep you safe. The betrayal was endless and we finally learn the hidden truths behind the experiments but as the story concluded I was left with a lot of questions. I didn’t feel closure on this particular plot line. There were hints as to how things might have settled and played out but I wanted transparent answers and proper closure. The ending gave me a little glimpse of hope and it doesn’t seem as if all is lost. Quinn and Rowan were still stupidly cute and Emery is so high on life, I don’t think he is ever coming back down.
