Review: Redemption by Nikole Knight

SYNOPSIS:

Riley is missing, and it’s up to his angels to find him.

With help from their allies, Gideon, Jai, and Noel fight to locate the missing piece to their family—and their hearts—before they lose him forever. Realms will topple, and worlds will burn. Because they will not stop until they get him back.

But for Riley, time is running out.

Trapped in the cursed realm, Riley Shepard finds himself at the mercy of the Seven. With no friends and no hope, he struggles to survive the horrors of Hell as he battles the inevitable pull to the darkness residing inside himself. But one way or another, he must face his demons or die trying.

If only death was so easy.

REVIEW:

I don’t know if I can write this book review without crying, in fact I am tearing up just thinking about this story. This story was brutal, necessary, but d*mn did it put my heart through the ringer. I wasn’t anticipating how emotionally invested I was in this series till I began Redemption and by the time I finished, my heart was aching.

Sweet precious Riley, after the cliffhanger at the end of Betrayal, I knew this story was going to be rough on my favorite hybrid. But nothing could have prepared me for just how brutal and challenging things really were. As Riley struggles to survive, the Seven torture him in unexpected, horrific ways. And I hate to say this but this challenge was necessary for Riley. He would have never truly accepted all parts of himself without his venture with the Seven. But it leaves me wondering, at what cost?

As the plot reaches a critical point, Riley seems broken. At what expense must he continue to give; the man is a shell of himself, haunted by trauma he endured. And oh how it made my heart ache, my eyes tear up, and I just wanted to take all of his pain away. But what I did love was how his Guardians rallied around him. If he was broken, they would help him put the pieces back together. If he wasn’t okay, they would accept him regardless. If he wanted to break down, they would hold him and guide him back. And the resilience of their relationships was truly a beautiful thing to witness.

Honestly, I am still not over this story. There were character deaths that truly gutted me, and if I think about it too long, I start to tear up all over again. Nikole Knight excels at emotion-telling in a way few authors do. She manages to tap into the raw emotions of her characters and writes them in such a way that I will be reeling over this story long after I finish the series.
