Review: Bad Alpha by Kathryn Moon
Eve had one job. Kill Adam.
But when her mark for the night turns out to be a gift-wrapped omega, Eve can’t resist delaying the job and enjoying the opportunity before her.
One bite is all it takes.
That’s what Adam is counting on. One bite and he might live till morning.
Success is complicated and on the run for their lives, Eve and Adam need the one thing neither of them wants. A pack.
Can three good men tame the killer and the con artist? Not if this bad alpha can help it.
REVIEW:
I am finally all caught up on the Sweetverse series and I have to say, Eve was just as crazy and unhinged as I anticipated… actually that’s a lie, she was even more insane than I anticipated. I enjoyed the book but I didn’t love it, which I will get into more details on that below but those issues aren’t enough for me to quit this series, I am too invested.
So lets start with what I loved, the found family. As unconventional as them all coming together was, I loved the deep bonds and friendships formed. Adam was a unique omega but he secretly had a huge heart under all the bravado, fear, and anxiety from life on the run. As soon as he finds some stability, he seems to thrive and he absolutely deserved that. As characters, I couldn’t get enough of Adam and Garrett, they were by far my favorites. Oddly enough, the plot twist was rather predictable, but I liked that I knew what was coming and I just didn’t exactly know how it was all going to play out.
Now what I didn’t care for was the fact that the story seemed to drag, there was definitely some filler text in there that could have been removed and didn’t really contribute to the plot. In addition, Eve didn’t really grow emotionally, like at all. In fact, I am not even sure Eve is capable of love, seriously the woman needs to be institutionalized and while I understood the tragic backstory, it doesn’t really justify her behavior.
But my biggest issue with this book is I think a lot of chapters were told from the wrong perspective. A lot of times, the characters who were showing the most vulnerability were from Eve’s perspective; Eve has the emotional evolution of a potato so the scenes didn’t have those hit home moments that I think Kathryn Moon was going for. Overall, I enjoyed the read and addition the Sweetverse, but Eve was definitely not my cup of tea.
